At the end of last week, when the one year anniversary of the shut down for Covid-19 came around, my husband and I had MSNBC on to watch the coverage.

They showed clips from the past year, denials of the severity of the virus, and news images as the death toll rose.

Then we watched the presidential address.

I was surprised to find myself in tears, just overwhelmed with all we’ve endured and relieved to finally see acknowledgment of the seriousness of this, progress with vaccines, encouragement of a science-first approach, and a plan to help those in low income communities most hard hit by this. The weight of everything – and the feeling that finally something is actually being done – all came together.

Today was also huge in our home, as my husband and I were both vaccinated – and I am so so grateful.

I just don’t have the words.

In addition to our having been vaccinated, many of our family members and friends either have already been, or are scheduled to be, and my heart is just overflowing. To think that we have just crossed the one year mark and are all being vaccinated is truly amazing.

There is still a way to go but it is wonderful to see this progress being made.

I cannot wait to see my parents and my nearest and dearest and to hug my people.

Our daughter is 17 so she can’t receive the vaccine yet but her birthday is before the end of the year and she will be vaccinated also – and before the holiday season.

I mention that specifically because one of my favorite things that did not happen last year because of Covid – and did not happen the year before because I was really sick – is our annual Festivus party.

If you aren’t familiar, Festivus is George Costanza’s holiday observed on December 23rd with the airing of grievances and feats of strength and a proper Festivus pole. 🙂

Well, we do indeed have a proper Festivus pole – and we love to have our Christmas/Festivus party with our friends on the 23rd before everybody gets super busy for the Holidays and have lots of food and fun and games and ugly sweater contests and white elephant gifts and all the love and laughing you can imagine.

This year especially, I miss my people something fierce. And now that I realize we shall ALL be vaccinated by Festivus? Oh, the Pinterest board is ALREADY started.

This Festivus shall be epic.

(And I have also already invited myself to my bestie’s house out of state the millisecond our vaccines are effective. Oh my word, I miss her. ❤ )

Y’all, Lord willing, we are getting there with this process. We just have to hang on and keep masking up, social distancing, and getting vaccinated in turn.

And I am so thankful. ❤
