The way things just happened to fall with scheduling, my regular mammogram and breast health appointment was scheduled yesterday, October 2nd.

The clinic I see for mammograms is exclusively focused on women’s breast health and I’ve seen them for the past two years.
They are wonderfully attentive and I am grateful for their care – however, once they had me all sorted at my initial visit, they also determined that I am a high risk patient with a 1 in 4 lifetime breast cancer risk, so these appointments make me a nervous wreck.
That said, again, yesterday was mammogram day.

Realizing that many patients are quite nervous, they are so considerate about getting everyone back in a timely manner and creating a calming atmosphere.
As you can see from the picture, if I look like I was about to toss my cookies before I went for my mammogram, it’s because I was. . .

However, the test itself is nothing like it used to be. It is a little uncomfortable, but tolerable, far from the smooshing torture devices of old.
Much more than the test itself, what I was concerned about was waiting for results – and, thankfully at my center, there is no real wait. The physician comes in immediately to report if all is well or if more needs to be investigated.
Yesterday, she came in to report that my mammogram was clear – thank the Lord. ❤
Because I am high risk, I still also need a breast MRI each year, which I will have later this month – but it is only precautionary.
Today I was sent on my way with a sweet rose for Breast Cancer Awareness Month.

Though mammogram day is not anyone’s favorite thing, it is important that women in their late 30’s and on be talking with their healthcare provider and determining how often they need to have them done.

It is so so essential.
