I’ve no idea who declared today, January 3rd, Memento Mori Day, but the calendar of those holidays that just seem to appear reports it is so.

Regardless of the reason for its creation, Memento Mori Day is definitely in my wheelhouse here at the Autoimmune Hippie – where I am seeking to have my book on death drafted by writer’s conference this year – and it feels right to take a moment to observe it.

The practice of memento mori, “remember you must die,” is simple – by having death in mind we keep life in perspective and make good use of our limited time here on earth.
Stated from a Biblical standpoint, “Teach us to number our days that we may gain a heart of wisdom” – Psalm 90:12 (NIV).

It is uncomfortable to consider death and we often go to great pains to avoid thinking about its inevitability – but it is important that we do so.

Remembering our moments are finite only makes them more precious – and we too easily forget this in the bustle of our chaotic lives.
Memento mori.

Be well, everybody. Take care of yourselves and each other.
Grace and Blessings.
(Tomorrow – book club day, and a much lighter post 😉 )
