monday morning with maya.

I’ve written before how dearly I love Dr. Maya Angelou – but this Monday morning, as I’ve been in bed sickly – with the respiratory yuck that everyone has + a gnarly storm system coming in = a puny spoonie – I have stumbled across an absolute gift.

On our library’s Libby app, I got a notification that my hold on Maya’s reading of her Letter to My Daughter audiobook was available – so I paused on my other books to listen to her immediately.

If you aren’t familiar with this work, she makes clear at the beginning – because she biologically has one son – that Letter is for all of us daughters who belong to her through her work and her impact on our lives.

I’ve shared in a previous post that, when I was very young, I even had her Inaugural Poem pinned on my bedroom wall, clipped from the local newspaper the day after she read it at President Clinton’s inauguration – and I have some of her beloved words forever across my shoulder as well.

one of my favorite pieces.

She is dear to my heart, both as an incredible writer and an extraordinary lady.

That said, it was precious to hear her again actually reading her Letter, such a treasure. I returned the library’s copy when I finished for the next person – and promptly put it on my Audible wish list because I would love to have my own.

If you love her, don’t miss this. ❤

Be well, everybody. Take care of yourselves and each other.

Grace and Blessings.
