Now that I’ve organized my TBR list and added audiobooks as well, intending to read much more this year, Goodreads tells me I’ve finished ten books so far in 2024 (including a poetry book and a short work by Cheryl Strayed).
I am absolutely loving having more books in my world (as well as more writing time) and had in mind to share, perhaps weekly, my favorite books I’m reading. I was deciding how to go about this – when we, here in the Deep South, have been forecast to possibly be snowed/iced in for several days next week. At the very least, we will have temperatures in the single digits, which we are not at all accustomed to – and we will all be spending a significant amount of time inside.
With this week looking very. . . indoorsy. . . for all of us, it seems that there is no better day than today for the start of my weekly book reports. 😉

Of those I would recommend, first, if you have Amazon Prime, a short work by Cheryl Strayed called Two Women Walk Into A Bar, about her relationship with her mother in law prior to her mother in law’s death. If you enjoyed her book Wild – which is centered in part on the loss of her mother when she was young – this is especially moving. The short story was included with Kindle and Audible – and I particularly loved listening to it on Audible because Cheryl read it herself (and I’m a softy for “read by author”).

Second, especially if you are one of my ladies, ahem, of a certain age (here we are 🙂 ), and you’ve missed Nora Ephron’s I Feel Bad About My Neck, And Other Thoughts On Being A Woman, I encourage you to pick it up right away. Funny, relatable, honest, and, at times, profound, it has quickly made way to my list of favorites.

Finally, a well-researched and really enjoyable read, Gretchen Rubin’s The Happiness Project is her story of twelve months spent making life changes in pursuit of greater happiness and blogging her way through the experience. She is smart and funny and there is much to take away from this one. I highly recommend it.

I’ve had really good luck with my reads so far in 2024, some better than others, but all of them enjoyable. I hope these suggestions are helpful as we all try to stay toasty warm inside this week. ❤

Be well, everybody. Take care of yourselves and each other.
Grace and Blessings.
