10 poems for world poetry day 2024.

Happy World Poetry Day, y’all. ❤

As a word nerd and poetry lover, I was not going to let us miss this day without sharing a few beloved poems.

(As a spoonie, I have been ridiculously sick this week, a gnarly pain situation as well as having full-body symptoms, exhausted, and collapsing into hibernation for hours on end. All the good vibes, prayers, and warm fuzzies are appreciated – and please bear with my brain fog. It is even more pronounced than usual.  😉  #fixitjesus )

Onward. . .

First, when it comes to Mary Oliver, like most of her admirers, I wish I could include all of her poems, as she wrote so wonderfully about the world around her and life and its meaning.

Here, I’m sharing one of her most beloved poems (for good reason), “Wild Geese.”

Next, there can be no Poetry Day without Dr. Maya – and it is hard to choose just one of her works as well.

I tend to share this one because it is so dear to me that it is inked on my shoulder – “Still I Rise.” ❤

Rose Milligan’s “Dust If You Must” is a striking piece, dear to my heart, especially as I work on my book. ❤

In any list of poems I love, I always include Maggie Smith’s powerful “Good Bones.”

It is just stunning – and I recommend checking out more of Maggie’s poetry. ❤

Next, I’ve loved Poe since my middle school days – like so many of us – and so we need to include “Annabel Lee.”

A bit of a shift in tone, the quote that greets everyone at the beginning of this site is from Wendell Berry – and I adore his work. Here is his lovely, “The Peace of Wild Things.”

Next, Robert Frost’s “Acquainted With The Night.” ❤

As I’ve seen more of Nikita Gill’s work being shared, this little piece caught my eye awhile back and I have kept it. ❤

And Whitman. . . ❤

Finally, the e e cummings poem read at our wedding – still for my husband now – “i carry your heart with me.” ❤

I have loved gathering these poems and looking through so many others while searching.

Wishing you all a Happy Poetry Day and a happy Thursday as well.

Be well, everybody. Take care of yourselves and each other.

Grace and Blessings.
