alabama’s library woes continue.

I have been waiting to update on my state’s library issues because there has been so much confusion – and very little clarity – since I last wrote.

However, I will mention that there was a library board unjustly unseated in the next county over from us, Shelby County, a few weeks ago, in a political move to replace an elected board with a – conservative – appointed board (you know, the way of a true democracy? #fixitjesus).

Also, since then, libraries across the state are thoroughly confused as to how to meet the new requirements enacted by our governor for children and youth books, that they might continue to be funded. The whole situation is a hot mess as of this writing – and I don’t anticipate it getting better anytime soon.

It’s no secret that I am passionate about open libraries and reading freely and saying no to this banning and bullying nonsense.

I think it is more important than ever to watch closely what is happening – and to keep on reading the books that are banned and found to be objectionable as well.

Of course, our Banned Book project is still ongoing here – with posts every Friday – and I’ll also share updates as I see them regarding the library regulations and funding in Alabama.

In the meantime, wishing you all a lovely rest of your week and happy reading.

Be well, everybody. Take care of yourselves and each other.

Grace and Blessings.
