I’ve learned that January 13th is Poetry Break Day every year in celebration of the reading and writing of poetry.
This year it has fortuitously fallen on Monday – as in Mary Oliver Monday here on the blog – so naturally one of Mary’s poems is first, a favorite of mine I haven’t shared here before called “mysteries, yes.”

I thought it would be nice to share a small selection of modern poems I found lovely for the rest of our poetry break.
This piece by Alethea Spark spoke to me.

I love Morgan Harper Nichols “Let July Be July.”

Erin Hanson’s “Not.” is powerful.

Becky Hemsley’s “Quietly” is an absolutely stunning portrait of grief.

Sian Wilmot’s “sometimes the wolf cries girl” is just fantastic.

Finally, dear to my heart, e. e. cummings “[i carry your heart with me(i carry it in].”

Enjoy some more poetry today – or perhaps write some of your own.
Happy Monday, y’all.

Be well, everybody. Take care of yourselves and each other.
Grace and Blessings.
