As everyone in the South is all too well aware, we are in the midst of a bear of a heatwave.
In Alabama, there is the potential to reach a heat index of 110 over the next few days.
USA Today Southern Heat Indexes.
While this is not good for anyone – even the healthy – it’s especially bad news for those of us with chronic illness who are heat intolerant.

I have experienced this for many years – but, with the added factors of residual COVID and pneumonia recovery, it’s brought some different challenges – and really given me a new awareness of the difficulties faced by those who have severe respiratory issues during these times.
(I have an inhaler in every room, my purse, and my car – and this air quality situation is no joke – and I have nothing to complain about compared to many of our friends who have come through COVID with severe lung issues.)
Also, from just a few unexpected hours outside and a bit of grocery shopping earlier this week – before the worst of this even started – I am just laid out and sleeping for hours and hours on end.

Oh, spoonie summertime.
Based on the forecast, it’s safe to say I’ll be indoors all weekend during the daytime hours, even watering my plants as early and/or late as possible during the day – and trying to convince Henry to be speedy with his daytime outdoor trips.
We are headed into July with a bang here in the Deep South.
Oh my word.

Be well, everybody. Take care of yourselves and each other.
Grace and Blessings.
