buying dirt.

So me – and about 8 million other country music fans 🙂 – fell in love with a Jordan Davis song he recorded with Luke Bryan called Buy Dirt that’s been a huge hit.

(In fact, Bug and I were lucky enough to hear Luke sing it the last time we saw his show. So much fun.)

It’s a simple little song – but it’s just perfect:

A few days before he turned 80He was sittin’ out back in a rockerHe said, “What you been up to lately?”I told him, “Chasing a dollar”And in between sips of coffeeHe poured this wisdom outSaid, “If you want my two cents on making a dollar count
Buy dirtFind the one you can’t live withoutGet a ring, let your knee hit the groundDo what you love but call it workAnd throw a little money in the plate at churchSend your prayers up and your roots down deepAdd a few limbs to your family treeAnd watch their pencil marksAnd the grass in the yard all grow up”
‘Cause the truth about it isIt all goes by real quickYou can’t buy happinessBut you can buy dirt
Before you get caught on that ladderLet me tell you what it’s all aboutFind you a few things that matterThat you can put a fence aroundAnd then he laid it out
Buy dirtFind the one you can’t live withoutGet a ring, let your knee hit the groundDo what you love but call it workAnd throw a little money in the plate at churchSend your prayers up and your roots down deepAnd add a few limbs to your family treeAnd watch their pencil marksAnd the grass in the yard all grow up
‘Cause the truth about it isIt all goes by real quickYou can’t buy happinessBut you can buy dirt
You can buy dirtAnd thank the good Lord for it‘Cause He ain’t makin’ any more of it
So buy dirtFind the one you can’t live withoutGet a ring, let your knee hit the groundDo what you love but call it workAnd throw a little money in the plate at churchSend your prayers up and your roots down deepAdd a few limbs to your family treeAnd watch their pencil marksAnd the grass in the yard all grow up

Since my whole heart is on our patch of dirt that my husband has worked so hard to build for our family, this song just got me right in my feels. ❤
(It landed in the middle of the anniversary playlist I made for Courtney too of course. ❤ )
Naturally, in my old plant lady age, I am ridiculously excited about playing in our actual dirt too 😉 :
my fabulous lemon tree.
an anniversary present I just love.
blueberries for our anniversary. thank you, baby. ❤
a clearance hibiscus I rescued from Walmart. (before)
my hibiscus is much better these days. ❤ (after)

I’m grateful everyday for our cozy hippie hut with our little family, doing life with my better half, who is just my favorite person and the very best man. ❤

No matter what else in this crazy world, my wish for us all:

Find you a few things that matterThat you can put a fence around.

Be well, everybody. Take care of yourselves and each other.

Grace and Blessings.
