blogtober post 10 – henry.

When I shared our terrible family news about our sweet Goblin last post, what I could not mention – it was just too much to bear at one time – was that our Henry had also fallen seriously ill and was in hospital at the same time.

Suddenly, at the end of last week, Henry became lethargic and stopped eating.

last week.

We took him into our vet’s office for a work up – and he was in a bad way.

His kidney issues – which we were aware of – were much worse – and he had a terrible UTI.

He was admitted for IV antibiotics and fluids – and was in the hospital when Goblin crossed the rainbow bridge.

(It has been an incredibly difficult week here.)

Still, despite treatment, he wouldn’t eat and wasn’t improving much – so we tried bringing him home at night to see if that would help.

On Monday night, we picked him up – and he came home too weak to stand – and went into respiratory distress.

At that moment, as I was trying to figure out what to do, a total God thing happened – his wonderful nurse, Nicole, had been worried about him – and called me unexpectedly after the clinic closed because she was still talking to our vet about him.

Between her and Dr. B sorting what was happening over the phone with me, it was determined he needed a massive dose of Lasix for congestive heart failure – which, thank God, I have on hand for myself – to get him through the night.

We gave him the medicine and his breathing improved to get us to the clinic opening at 6 AM Tuesday morning.

On Tuesday, Dr. B – who has absolutely saved our baby over these many years – found that he does have CHF, in addition to a pneumonia and a possible blood clot.

(He also said that – given the heart failure situation on X-ray – the lasix dose the night before had saved his life. Oh my word. I am so grateful.)

Dr. B immediately started all the appropriate medications – and I was so afraid as he still wasn’t eating and was too weak to stand Tuesday morning.

However, he was on his own little feet Tuesday evening – and chowed on some oats and Gerber chicken sticks like it was his job at home that night. ❤️

walking on Tuesday.

On Wednesday, he was even stronger – eating more and walking further, and we are so relieved and grateful.

I can’t say enough how thankful we are for our amazing vet and the wonderful staff at our veterinary clinic as well – and how blessed we feel for our little man pulling through this, his toughest battle. ❤️

back on Henry’s bed. ❤️

He will go back to the clinic today for a day of labs and antibiotics – but hopefully this will be his last day this week away and he’ll be able to finish his treatment with oral antibiotics at home.

Please keep our sweet boy in your prayers as he continues to recover.

Be well, everybody. Take care of yourselves and each other.

Grace and Blessings.
