I’ve been thinking about having a few themed sort of days each week and I’ve decided that we absolutely need Music Mondays here – with playlists and album discussions and the like – and what better way to start them off than with some 90’s goodness? 🙂
In the car a couple of days ago, I was excitedly telling my husband that I had just learned Alanis Morrissette is coming to our area next month for the first time since 1999.
Of course, I want to go.
He got tickled at me and started teasing me about her demographic back in the Jagged Little Pill days of, umm, women with a lil’ bit of rage in our hearts.
I mean, if you didn’t count “You Oughta Know” as the song for a dramatic break up in your young life, did you even date in the late 90’s, ladies? Bahaha. 😉
As we were talking about some of the fabulous vintage angry 90’s girl songs, I decided it was time for a playlist. It has since grown to include some songs that are outside of the MTV angry girls genre but are ubiquitous 90’s girl songs for one reason or another.
It was a fabulous time for all music – and especially ladies were making strides.
As with all playlist posts, I’m going to link a few favorites here and then post the entire list below.
Needless to say, we have to start with the OG:
(I really dig this acoustic version from Howard Stern a few years ago <3)
Another song that I always associate with the 90’s is The Chicks “Goodbye Earl” – and I have just recently seen a car that still had an “Earl’s in the Trunk” bumper sticker, hence the name of this post. 😉
On a much less violent (hehe) note, another playlist must that came to mind – as it was everywhere – is TLC’s “No Scrubs.”
Back on the properly angry train, this list simply can’t be without Meredith Brook’s “Bitch.”
One that I thought of – not because the song is angry – but because its singer CERTAINLY caused a storm when she ripped a picture of the Pope live on SNL in protest of sexual abuse within the church back in 1992 – is Sinead O’ Connor’s version of Nothing Compares 2 U.
As my husband and I were also talking about vintage Gwen Stefani vs the modern version, I have to include No Doubt’s “Just A Girl.”
Finally, though it isn’t one of the angry songs, it is definitely a 90’s girl song that belongs here: Shania Twain’s “Man, I Feel Like A Woman.”
Such is the staying power of this song that Sara and I are going to see Luke Bryan with a dear friend later this week and we decided to have fun and go all in country themed for the show. As we’ve been keeping our eyes peeled for fabulous accessories, we came across this koozie. . . in 2022:

This has been a fantastic walk down memory lane.
Here is the entire list so far:
I would love any suggestions for additions that you might have. I know there are many more.
Happy Music Monday, y’all. I think this will be so much fun. ❤
Be well, everybody. Take care of yourselves and each other.
Grace and Blessings.
