our henry on the mend.

As I’ve shared often, Henry has several medical issues – diabetes, autoimmune hemolytic anemia (AIHA), gallbladder issues, and, most recently, liver function problems – that require multiple daily medications and as well insulin twice a day.

We have a system in place where I get all his meds set up and his Daddy gives him all of them and his insulin – along with his favorite chicken deli meat 🙂 –  at set times he fully expects (and gets very upset if they are even a little bit late).

henry is a daddy’s boy – and his daddy is the very best, even driving home on his lunch break just to give henry his meds and snack. ❤

Earlier this week, Henry was acting a bit run down – but nothing too concerning, until Thursday when he suddenly would not eat his breakfast or his lunch meat and was suddenly very lethargic.

our baby boy is NOT one to usually turn down his dish. we were worried.

Needless to say, we went straight to our wonderful vet’s office to find out what was going on.

Immediately, it was determined that a nasty UTI that has recurred over the last several months had returned again – and he was given an antibiotic injection and a plan for strong oral antibiotics at home.

He had many labs drawn to recheck his liver situation we’ve been treating since May and to follow up on his AIHA as well (as is necessary every few months).

He was also found to have hypothyroidism – which is something that is easy to treat and make him feel better quickly.

From there, we were sent home with his meds to wait for the antibiotics to work and for the send-out lab results to come in on Friday.

He rested through the night on Thursday and grew stronger through the day Friday.

Friday shortly after lunch, I received the BEST call I could have hoped for from our vet’s office: the specialized liver supplement that Henry has been taking in hopes that his liver functions would improve (as there is nothing else to do) had resulted in NORMAL liver function tests.

This is a miracle and an answer to prayer and we are so grateful. ❤

After that excellent news, Henry has continued to improve and is now chowing and acting like his usual fabulous weenie dog self – thanks be to God.

We plan to spoil him rotten – as always – all weekend as he continues to mend.

this guy. ❤

Be well, everybody. Take care of yourselves and each other.

Grace and blessings.
