observing national therapy dog day & national adopt a shelter pet day.

Yesterday, April 30th, was National Therapy Dog Day and National Adopt A Shelter Pet Day.

When I think of them both, I immediately think Henry Petunia, the greatest ESA ever, who came to us from the Greater Birmingham Humane Society.

Henry helped me through many frightening and anxious times in dealing with my illness – but, much more than that, the joy he brought our family was immeasurable.

For the better part of seven years, my sweet Henry was my tiny bestie, going with me almost everywhere including most travels and hospital stays. He was the funniest little dog ever – and he ran the Hippie Hut like a tiny boss.

I am so thankful he picked us and I will miss him forever. ♥️

Though there will never ever be another Henry, I am also deeply grateful for his little brother, Oliver Hank – who I just know was sent by Henry himself – from the Montgomery Humane Society.

this guy. ♥️

Ollie is *not* service dog material – as he is all free spirit 😂 – but he *is* my tiny bestie, little shadow, constant source of laughter, and the best little snuggle buddy every night. ♥️

He’s perfect for me.

(Thank you, Henry Petunia. ♥️)

We celebrate service dogs and emotional support dogs big here at the Autoimmune Hippie as well as therapy dogs (therapy dog visit day used to mean the world to my residents and to me in my nursing days).

this. ♥️

Remember, too, everyone – especially with difficult economic times and shelters overwhelmed and getting less financial support to operate – to always adopt, don’t shop.

this.

Be well, everybody. Take care of yourselves and each other.

Grace and Blessings.
