Because I’m an old southern woman, and we’re supposed to wear funny looking hats and ugly clothes and grow vegetables in the dirt. Don’t ask me those questions; I don’t know why. I don’t make the rules. – Ouiser Boudreaux
Like many other Southern women, Steel Magnolias has long spoken my love language and I had it playing on Netflix as I was working tonight and couldn’t help but get so tickled as Ouiser was fussing and carrying on about her tomatoes, while wearing her big floppy hat and her worn out overalls.
See, several months – and quite a few posts – ago, shortly before I was admitted to the hospital in March, I mentioned that I had found a “Grow Your Own Pizza” kit that I bought in the Target dollar section in my pre-plant lady days – thus ending up in a drawer back then – so I rescued and planted it.
It was a tiny tin of basil and tomatoes.
Well. . .
Now, several months later, the tin is filled with basil and the tomatoes are so big that this little plant lady was at Walmart picking up a tomato cage for their new pot last week.
It’s been so much fun growing veggies that I’ve also got some pumpkins and cucumber – and I’m planning to start a mini box garden. ❤
I don’t make the rules. . . 😉
As Bug and I were talking plants and Steel Magnolias, she mentioned that I needed some overalls too – for my farmer moments (bahaha) – and I told her that – because my better half is the best – I actually already have the most cozy pair ever.
And it was indeed time to break them out.
Turns out they are so dang comfy that I may be wearing them everywhere, including church. Look out, y’all. 😉
We are supposed to wear ugly clothes and grow vegetables in the dirt. – I don’t make the rules. 😉
The point of this tale is that, if you had told me even five years ago that the garden center would have a magnetic pull for me and that I too would actually be a gardening Southern lady, I would have fallen over laughing at you.
Truly.
So always leave room for new things, new interests, new ideas, and new dreams.
While life can have some scary turns and surprises, you also never know what amazing new things can be waiting around the bend for you as well.
God has the best plans for us in the end, in the big and small parts of our lives.
Be well, everybody. Take care of yourselves and each other.
Grace and Blessings.
