new year’s day

My precious friend Chani and I both managed have to have a beast of a health year, each in our own way, in 2017.

She is battling cancer – and fighting like the fierce woman she is! – and she REALLY had to bring it last year.

So, just this New Year’s morning, we both agreed that our 2018 was to be MUCH less medically fascinating. Yes.

And guess which one of us couldn’t get her pain under control and was in the ER by 3 PM?

Yep. πŸ˜‚πŸ˜‚πŸ˜‚

I have to laugh or I would cry.

Seriously, in this case, as I’m still on my regular steroids as well as a medrol dosepak plus all my usual meds – and still nothing was working – I feel certain this is residual inflammation from having had the plague. I was having some severe pain, to the point where it was literally hurting to breathe. So there was no avoiding this one.

The ER staff was wonderful and my sweet Sara went with me to help (because she is just the best) and we even got an awesome doctor who was a fellow Stephen King fan (Sara looooves him) who took a few minutes to talk books with her and point her to a few obscure treasures that she was super excited to order as soon as we got home with her Christmas gift card (thanks, Nana and GJ! ❀️).

I was given shots and meds and patched right up and I was so grateful.

I came home in time to even whip up some NOLA inspired (very simple) foods before the Alabama game and even made it through the first half before I HAD to go lay down and sleep for a while.

Now, though, the steroids have kicked in, so I’m wide awake and working on some things while my two favorite boys – my better half and my Henry – sleep next to me and the game replay is on in the background. My pain isn’t gone but it is much improved from where it was earlier today. And I am so thankful.

And, now, I am again going to try to be less medically fascinating for a bit.

As I was working on my planner for the week – and I have A LOT to do – I was reviewing the Whole 30, and realized that, with my existing dietary restrictions as well as my nutritional needs, due to my bone issues, it is not advisable for me.

So I will be sticking with The Daniel Plan.

And this was today’s Daniel Plan devotional:

Sara and I already talked today about our health goals for this month and year – we are doing the buddy system – and I’m adding things to my calendar tonight and excited to get started.

And I also gave Sara her own planner today.

So we begin.

And I chose a theme verse for this year as well:

2 Timothy 1:7

Let’s do this. (And let’s try to stay away from the ER too. πŸ˜‚)

Be well, everybody. Have a fabulous Tuesday!

Grace and blessings. β€οΈπŸ’œπŸ’™πŸ’›πŸ’š
